HockeyStack is an analytics and attribution tool for B2B SaaS. It collects and helps analyze data from all parts of the SaaS customer journey - marketing, sales, and product engagement. Our goal is to make tracking and gaining insights from all this data easier and faster.
HockeyStack is an Applied AI company on a mission to automate sales, marketing, and customer success for B2B companies. As Head of Engineering, your primary mission is to scale our highly technical engineering team beyond 15 engineers, ensuring operational excellence, high morale, and continuous delivery of critical product enhancements. You'll lead our engineering team to deliver exceptional value, drive efficiency, and ensure our technical operations align with strategic business goals. You'll strategically lead the people and processes that empower our team to execute rapidly and effectively, directly shaping our capability to handle massive datasets and build scalable backend systems.
Your success will directly influence our product evolution, customer success, and overall company trajectory as we grow towards becoming a category-defining company.
Own the end-to-end management and scaling of the engineering organization, focusing heavily on recruitment, mentorship, and retention of top talent.
Drive a culture of transparency and accountability through clear goal-setting, effective 1:1s, performance management, and professional growth initiatives.
Identify opportunities for improvement and implement engineering best practices to optimize productivity, quality, and operational excellence.
Actively track and drive engineering initiatives, ensuring timelines and goals are consistently met or exceeded.
Partner closely with our CTO to maintain technical excellence, occasionally reviewing or contributing directly to the codebase when necessary.

Demonstrated experience building and scaling engineering teams from the ground up within a startup environment
Recent hands-on familiarity with modern backend development, data orchestration, and API integrations
Minimum 8+ years in technical roles with at least 2 years managing teams at a Head-level or above
Proven track record of attracting, recruiting, and retaining exceptional engineering talent
Passion for solving complex challenges, from architecture design to high-throughput data processing (currently managing 60TB+ of data monthly)
Comfortable being highly visible and accountable in a fast-paced startup

As part of our San Francisco, California-based team, the salary range for this role is $200,000– $300,000 USD base pay annually , depending on experience and qualifications.
