Yondu is a startup deploying robots to solve labor intensive problems in retail and 3PL services. We are first addressing batch picking for order fulfillment by using mobile manipulators and wheeled humanoids. Currently we are upgrading off the shelf robots to complete this task, but we will soon manufacture our own robots!

The company was founded by MIT students and has already raised seed funding after graduating from the YC W24 batch.

We are seeking a mechanical design intern to help upgrade our humanoid teleoperation system. As an intern, you will:

• Improve the existing mechanical system through innovative design and enhanced actuation
• Design, prototype, and assemble mechanical subsystems for robotic applications
• Optimize human-robot interaction through thoughtful and ergonomic design
• Test system robustness through real-time teleoperation of a humanoid platform
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate hardware with software and control systems

 Proficiency with CAD software for mechanical design

• Familiarity with prototyping methods, including 3D printing
• Understanding of mechanical assemblies, including fasteners and basic design principles
• Experience integrating motors or actuators into mechanical systems
• Comfortable with hands-on assembly and mechanical testing
• Exposure to microcontrollers and electromechanical systems is a plus
• Knowledge of Python or C++ is a plus
