About Soraban

Today, Soraban's building software to help accountants automate their client data intake process. Our next step is to build the Copilot for accountants. We are looking for ambitious people to come build the best piece of software for accountants.

About the role
Skills: JavaScript, React, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails

We’re building the Copilot for accountants. Soraban is a post-PMF B2B SaaS startup with rapidly growing ARR and customer usage. Our software helps tax firms automate data intake and service delivery, and we’re scaling fast. As our infrastructure needs evolve, we’re hiring our first DevOps & Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of reliability, security, and remote desktop hosting at scale.

Why This Role Matters
Our infrastructure is at a turning point. We currently run a mix of Heroku and AWS, but with scaling and cost pressures, we’re migrating off Heroku and need someone to lead that effort. You’ll own core responsibilities around infrastructure, CI/CD, cloud hosting, and DevOps — helping us stay reliable, secure, and cost-efficient as we grow.

We’re a remote team that’s looking to build our teams in San Francisco (CA), and Tempe (AZ) locations. This will be initially a remote role, but will be in-person role in 3-6 months.

What You’ll Own & Drive:

  • Lead our migration off Heroku – Evaluate and execute the right infrastructure strategy as we scale.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Set up and manage AWS environments optimized for performance and cost. Familiarity with RDS, EC2, ALBs, IAM, and VPC networking is ideal.
  • Lead our cloud hosting initiative – Take ownership of our customer hosting platform (initially low-scale), ensuring it is secure, stable, and positioned to scale as we expand. You’ll help operationalize this offering and work with the core team to grow it into a meaningful part of our business.
  • Site reliability & DevOps processes – Build better QA, monitoring, and incident response systems to improve uptime and mitigate risk.
  • CI/CD & automation – Improve deployment workflows and developer efficiency.
  • Security & Key Management: Implement robust secrets management, security hardening, and compliance-minded infra practices.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code: Use Terraform (or similar) to provision reproducible, scalable environments.
  • Simple, Pragmatic Design: Balance speed and simplicity—future-proof when it matters, not for its own sake.

Skills & Experience We're Looking For:

  • 5+ years of DevOps/SRE/Infrastructure experience.
  • Experience with AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, or similar tools.
  • Strong background in CI/CD pipelines and automating deployments.
  • Experience with scaling web applications & databases.
  • A cost-conscious approach to infrastructure—knows how to optimize spend while maintaining performance.
  • Ability to lead major infra projects, from Heroku migration to SRE best practices.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup with a bias toward action.
  • Excellent communication skills (clear written and spoken English).
  • Security-minded: You think about least privilege, auditability, and secrets hygiene.

Bonus If:

  • You have experience migrating off Heroku or handling large-scale infra transitions.
  • You’re familiar with Ruby on Rails, React, and Postgres environments.
  • Experience with Windows servers, Active Directory, RDS.
  • You’ve built monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems from scratch.
  • You’ve worked directly with founders and small teams to move fast and execute.
