About PostHog

PostHog is an open-source product analytics platform. We provide product-led teams with everything they need to understand user behavior, including funnels, session recording, user paths, multivariate testing, feature flags, heat maps, and more. PostHog can be deployed to the cloud, or self-hosted on existing infrastructure, removing the need to send data externally.

PostHog was created as an open source project during Y Combinator's W20 cohort and had the most successful B2B software launch on HackerNews since 2012 - with a product that was just 4 weeks old. Since then, more than 10,000 companies have installed the platform, we've had huge success with our paid upgrades, and we have raised $27m from some of the world's top investors, and have shown strong product-led growth - 97% driven by word of mouth.

Despite the tech market, we're default alive and doing better than ever!

We've been averaging >20% monthly revenue growth, we are default alive, and we didn't raised a huge / now-overpriced round in 2021. While others are focused on layoffs and struggling to grow into huge valuations, we're focusing on an awesome product for end users, hiring (a handful of) exceptional team members and seeing fantastic increases in revenue as a result.

About the role

About PostHog

We're shipping every product that companies need to run their business from their first day, to the day they IPO, and beyond. The operating system for folks who build software.

We started with open-source product analytics, launched out of Y Combinator's W20 cohort. We've since shipped more than a dozen products, including:

  • A built-in data warehouse, so users can query product and customer data together using custom SQL insights.

  • A customer data platform, so they can send their data wherever they need with ease.

  • PostHog AI, an AI-powered analyst that answers product questions, helps users find useful session recordings, and writes custom SQL queries.

Next on the roadmap are CRM, workflow, revenue analytics, and support products. When we say every product that companies need to run their business, we really mean it!

We are:

  1. Product-led. More than 100,000 companies have installed PostHog, mostly driven by word-of-mouth. We have intensely strong product-market fit.

  2. Default alive. Revenue is growing 10% MoM on average, and we're very efficient. We raise money to push ambition and grow faster, not to keep the lights on.

  3. Well-funded. We've raised more than $100m from some of the world's top investors. We're set up for a long, ambitious journey.

We're focused on building an awesome product for end users, hiring exceptional teammates, shipping fast, and being as weird as possible.

Things we care about

  • Transparency: Everyone can read about our roadmap, how we pay (or even let go of) people, our strategy, and how we work, in our public company handbook. Internally, we share revenue, notes and slides from board meetings, and fundraising plans, so everyone has the context they need to make good decisions.

  • Autonomy: We don’t tell anyone what to do. Everyone chooses what to work on next based on what's going to have the biggest impact on our customers, and what they find interesting and motivating to work on. Engineers lead product teams and make product decisions. Teams are flexible and easy to change when needed.

  • Shipping fast: Why not now? We want to build a lot of products; we can't do that shipping at a normal pace. We've built the company around small teams – autonomous, highly-efficient groups of cracked engineers who can outship much larger companies because they own their products end-to-end.

  • Time for building: Nothing gets shipped in a meeting. We're a natively remote company. We default to async communication – PRs > Issues > Slack. Tuesdays and Thursdays are meeting-free days, and we prioritize heads down building time over perfect coordination. This will be the most productive job you've ever had.

  • Ambition: We want to solve big problems. We strongly believe that aiming for the best possible upside, and sometimes missing, is better than never trying. We're optimistic about what's possible and our ability to get there.

  • Being weird: Weird means redesigning an already world-class website for the 5th time. It means shipping literally every product that relates to customer data. It means building an objectively unnecessary developer toy with dubious shareholder value. Doing weird stuff is a competitive advantage. And it's fun.

Who we're looking for

We want to build a YouTube channel that people subscribe to because it's genuinely useful and entertaining, whether they're PostHog users or not.

To do so, we're looking for developers who love teaching. People who are obsessed with what's new, what's interesting, and sharing their knowledge with our audience of product engineers, startup founders, and builders.

You could be a Dev Advocate or DevRel engineer who loves video, or a software developer who makes videos on the side and wants to do it full time. Whatever your background, you need to be opinionated about what makes great content for developers.

This means you need to be technical. You'll either have worked as a software developer, or be the kind of person who likes building apps and websites in their spare time for the fun of it.

Why is this exciting? Three reasons:

  1. You're joining a new team at a company that's blowing up. You'll get to define what we do.

  2. We care about quality – we're not interested in building a content mill of AI slop.

  3. You'll be joining a team of world-class videographers, video editors and writers who you can learn from.

What you'll be doing

Ultimately, you'll decide, but interested in tutorials and demos like this one, but way better, and guides about how to get the most out of popular developers tools, like:

We also want to turn existing blogs and newsletters into videos, like 8 learnings from 1 year of agents and Non-obvious pricing advice for startups, and share the lessons of PostHog's product engineers into interesting, shareable short and long-form content.

This means you'll be:

  • Scripting, presenting, and editing video content for a developer audience

  • Originating your own content ideas and adapting existing content into a video form

  • Talking to PostHog product engineers about their work as inspiration for videos

  • Educating developers on the latest trends (e.g. new tools, best practices, using AI)

  • Teaching developers how they can use PostHog to achieve their goals

  • Owning all the creative elements of your videos (e.g. titles, thumbnails, descriptions)

  • Analyzing video and channel performance to understand what works and why

You WILL NOT be:

  • Running, attending or presenting at conferences. This primarily a video content focused role

  • Working on documentation or sales enablement content. We have other teams doing this

Requirements

  • Strong engineering skills. This means being able to ship full stack apps and familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, and popular frontend frameworks.

  • Good writing and presentation skills. You need to enjoy presenting and be a solid writer who can write their own scripts, and edit and give useful feedback on people's work.

  • Be an early adopter. We're looking for people who love tinkering with new tools, models, and frameworks, learning them inside out, and sharing what you learn.

  • Competent with video editing tools. We have editors you can work with and level up your work, but you should be able to ship a video end-to-end when needed.

  • Can shoot at home. We're a remote company, so you need to be able to shoot videos from your home. We'll provide all the equipment to do this if you don't already have it.

  • Active in developer communities. We're looking for active participants in developer communities, be that in Discords, Twitch streams, subreddits, or social media.

We are committed to ensuring a fair and accessible interview process. If you need any accommodations or adjustments, please let us know
