About the role

About Us

Banner is transforming the way America’s buildings are developed and improved. Today, the commercial real estate industry manages hundreds of billions in capital projects using outdated tools like spreadsheets and shared folders. Banner changes that.

We build intuitive, powerful financial and project management software for real estate owners, developers, and operators. Our customers use Banner to manage everything from painting an apartment unit to developing a new office building.

We're on a mission to modernize how real estate projects are run. If you're someone who gets excited about solving real-world problems and delighting customers, we'd love to meet you.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Data Operations Specialist to help power a fast-growing startup by owning how client data gets transformed, structured, and loaded into our platform.

This is a high-impact, high-ownership role. You’ll work with messy, real-world data under real deadlines, often juggling multiple client workflows at once. You’ll need to be comfortable operating in a high-intensity startup environment where priorities shift quickly and you’re trusted to figure things out.

If you thrive under pressure, enjoy building order out of chaos, and want meaningful ownership over how data operations work, you’ll do great here.

What You’ll Do

  • Intake raw client data across many formats and levels of cleanliness
  • Quickly understand client data structures and map them to our system
  • Clean, transform, and validate data for import into our platform
  • Manage multiple data projects simultaneously, each with deadlines
  • Work deeply in complex Excel workbooks (multi-tab, interdependent formulas)
  • Recreate or redesign Excel models to improve clarity and usability
  • Use Python, AI tools, and automation to accelerate repetitive or complex data tasks
  • QA imported data and troubleshoot discrepancies under time pressure
  • Partner with customer-facing teams to unblock clients and hit onboarding timelines
  • Design, document, and improve data processes as the business scales

What We’re Looking For

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, nested formulas; Power Query a plus)
  • Proven ability to work with large, messy, incomplete datasets
  • Comfort juggling multiple tasks and shifting priorities
  • Ability to stay calm, accurate, and focused under pressure and deadlines
  • Strong sense of ownership — you see problems and fix them
  • Working knowledge of Python (pandas preferred) or strong interest in using it regularly
  • Regular use of modern AI tools to work faster and smarter
  • Clear communicator who can explain data constraints and tradeoffs

Nice to Have

  • Experience in startups or high-growth environments
  • Data migrations, implementations, or onboarding experience
  • SQL familiarity
  • Background in operations, analytics, or implementation roles

Startup Reality (Read This If You Like Ownership)

  • This is not a narrowly scoped or ticket-only role
  • You’ll help create and evolve business processes, not just follow them
  • You’ll have autonomy, trust, and visibility from day one
  • Speed matters — accuracy matters more
  • Your work will directly impact customers and revenue

How to Apply

Please include:

  • A short note about your experience in fast-paced or high-intensity environments
  • Examples of complex Excel or data transformation work (screenshots or descriptions are fine)
  • Any experience using Python or AI tools in your workflow
Technology
