Splash is developing the next generation of autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) to provide National Security and defend critical assets such as oil rigs and shipping terminals. Our long-term vision is to make traditional naval vessels obsolete by creating a fleet of low-cost and versatile boats which will be able to dominate the seas. Our expertise in mass manufacturing, engineering and quickly scaling operations will make this vision a reality.
Skills: Prototyping, C, CAD DesignWe are seeking an Electrical Engineer to design and develop advanced electronic systems for our vessels. You’ll own high-speed digital/mixed-signal design and robust power delivery, taking designs from concept through schematic/PCB, bring-up, validation, and release to production.
Requirements:
-
High-speed digital: 3+ years designing and validating interfaces such as Ethernet, USB (2.0/3.x), PCIe, and MIPI CSI-2; strong grasp of SI/PI, impedance control, differential pair routing, length/Skew matching, and termination.
-
Peripheral interfacing: Solid experience with I²C, SPI, and UART at the board level.
-
Power delivery: Design experience with Power over Ethernet (PoE) (PD and/or PSE) as a distinct power domain, plus high-power DC/DC regulation (buck/boost), inrush/over-current protection, hot-swap, OR-ing, and thermal design.
-
PCB design: Proficient with Altium Designer, KiCad, or EAGLE; comfortable creating/maintaining libraries, defining multilayer stackups, and applying DFM/DFA for scalable production.
-
Lab skills: Hands-on SMD rework; competent with oscilloscopes, logic/protocol analyzers, and power instrumentation; methodical bring-up and board-level debugging.
-
Linux familiarity: Use Linux for test, flashing, automation, and hardware validation workflows (e.g., exercising interfaces, reading logs, simple scripting).
-
Compliance mindset: Practical EMI/EMC layout techniques, grounding/shielding/filtering, and designing with regulatory and safety requirements in mind.
Preferred Experience:
-
Firmware (bonus): STM32 microcontrollers with C/C++ (HAL/LL or bare-metal), bootloaders, and peripheral driver bring-up to accelerate hardware validation.
- System-level validation of PCIe and MIPI CSI-2 links (fixtures, eye/BER concepts, margining) and Ethernet/USB protocol-level debug.
- Experience taking boards through EMI/EMC, ESD/surge, and safety pre-scan/qualification.
- Automated test/validation (e.g., Python for bench control), production test development, and robust documentation (schematics/BOMs/bring-up notes).
