About Cua

Cua is building the infrastructure that lets general AI agents safely and scalably use Computers and Apps like humans do.

With 9k+ GitHub stars in just 4 months and a seed round closed, we’re providing:

  • An open-source framework for building and evaluating general-purpose AI agents.
  • A cloud container platform for sandboxed, scalable agent execution environments.
  • A blueprint for what production-grade general agent systems should look like - backed by research.
About the role
Skills: Go, Python, TypeScript, Docker

Overview

Cua is building the infrastructure that enables general-purpose AI agents to safely and scalably use real computers and applications.

We're a small team backed by Y Combinator and top-tier investors, and our open-source tools are already used by thousands of developers. As a Software Engineer Intern, you’ll get hands-on experience helping turn research prototypes into real infrastructure - from secure agent runtimes to developer-facing APIs.

We’re looking for someone with curiosity, technical ability, and eagerness to learn across layers - from OS-level virtualization to cloud orchestration. You’ll work closely with the founding team on developer tools, infrastructure design, and open-source projects.

Your contributions will help shape how autonomous agents interact with real computers at scale - across macOS, Windows, and Linux - and how developers build and trust them in production environments.

Cua is for builders who care about reproducibility, system safety, and the developer experience of working with AI. If that sounds like you, we’d love to talk.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing infrastructure to run AI agents on isolated macOS and Linux containers
  • Contribute to APIs and CLIs for developers to launch and control agents
  • Help with orchestration projects across cloud providers (AWS, GCP, etc.)
  • Learn and apply containerization and virtualization technologies (Docker, KVM, etc.)
  • Collaborate with the founding team and open-source contributors on roadmap and experiments
  • Document your work through notes, tutorials, or blog posts to grow the ecosystem
  • Participate in product discussions and internal research to support long-term technical vision

Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Go, TypeScript, or Rust)
  • Familiarity with Linux environments, containers, or backend systems
  • Strong interest in developer tools, AI infrastructure, or distributed systems
  • Curiosity, eagerness to learn, and comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment

Preferred:

  • Experience with Docker, KVM, or other OS-level virtualization
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Exposure to performance optimization or debugging in projects (e.g., databases, cluster orchestration)
  • Interest in AI agents, LLM-generated code, or Copilot-style tools
  • Prior open-source contributions or personal projects you can share
  • Based in SF and able to spend time in our office.

What We Offer

  • High-impact experience – Work directly with the founding team on core infrastructure
  • Learning environment – Exposure to system internals, developer tools, and open-source community building
  • Open-source visibility – Contribute to a project with 9k+ GitHub stars and a growing developer base
  • Flexible setup – Madrid preferred, but remote is fine for the right person
  • Future opportunities – Potential for conversion to a full-time role after internship

How to Apply

Please include:

  • Your GitHub or portfolio (required)
  • A short note on the most interesting technical project you’ve worked on (school, personal, or internship)
  • Bonus: try building something with Cua or contribute to our docs - we notice contributors

This is a paid internship. Compensation will depend on location and experience.

Cua AI, Inc. is committed to fair and transparent opportunities. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply, regardless of gender, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or belief.

Personal data will be handled in accordance with the GDPR (EU Regulation 2016/679) and other applicable data privacy laws.

Technology

We're looking for different roles to help us push this vision forward - turning cutting-edge research prototypes into real, deployable systems.

If you’re obsessed with developer tools, infrastructure, and making AI agents go from toy demos to robust, real-world tools - we want to talk.
