About the role

About the Role

We are looking for a Head of Operations, our first executive hire, to serve as the CEO’s right-hand person and drive Lago’s operational scale and efficiency.

This is not a junior Chief of Staff role—we need someone with at least 7 years of relevant experience who has scaled from Series A to Series C and can own business operations end-to-end.

You’ll be responsible for building and optimizing operations, supporting investor relations, and ensuring the business runs smoothly.

This role is ideal for someone who can step into new functions (0 to 1) before we hire dedicated leaders and manage external contractors (e.g., recruiting, finance, legal) for functions that have not been internalized yet.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Business Operations & Scaling – Design and implement processes that support Lago’s rapid growth and improve cross-functional efficiency.
  • Customer Success & Account Management – Drive retention and expansion by ensuring customers are engaged and successful.
  • Internal Tooling & Automation – Identify and implement the right tools to increase team efficiency and decision-making speed. You should be good at designing process flows on a chart, but also thrive at implementing and improving our tooling set up: digging deep into the tooling documentation, testing workflows, coaching our team on new tools.
  • People & Recruiting – Work closely with leadership to hire, onboard, and retain top-tier talent, ensuring Lago remains a high-talent-density company. This includes managing external talent recruiting firms.
  • Investor & Strategic Support – Assist the CEO in gathering key data, problem-solving, framing communications, and ensuring Lago’s vision is clearly conveyed to investors.
  • 0 to 1 Ownership of New Functions – Step in and lead emerging functions (e.g., Partnerships, Finance, or Legal) until we hire a dedicated leader—setting up initial processes and proving out the function.
  • Managing External Contractors – Oversee and coordinate third-party providers for functions that haven’t been internalized yet (e.g., recruiting agencies, finance consultants, legal counsel), ensuring seamless execution and cost efficiency.
  • Cross-functional Execution & Communication – Align and coordinate product, engineering, and go-to-market teams to ensure seamless execution at scale. Support leadership to ensure company goals and context are shared as needed.

Who You Are

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience, ideally in Series A to Series C startups.
  • Strong background in customer success, account management, business operations, tooling, and/or recruiting.
  • Hands-on problem solver who thrives in ambiguity and can set up new functions from scratch.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to handle high-stakes conversations with customers, employees, and investors.
  • Proven ability to manage external vendors and contractors, ensuring efficiency and accountability.
  • Comfortable working directly with the CEO, operating as a thought partner and execution force.
  • Not a junior Chief of Staff role—we are looking for our first executive hire to shape and scale the business.
