As our Founding Recruiter, you’ll be at the forefront of this journey, shaping not just our team but also the talent strategy that will drive our success.
💡 About the Role
As the first recruiter at Onyx, you’ll be a foundational part of our team, responsible for building our talent function from the ground up. This is an opportunity to operate at both strategic and tactical levels — from setting talent acquisition strategy to rolling up your sleeves and finding exceptional candidates. This is a 6 month contract to start with the potential to convert to full time.
In this role, you will:

Own the Entire Recruitment Lifecycle: Manage the full-cycle recruiting process across all roles, from technical engineering to go-to-market (GTM) positions.

Strategize and Execute Talent Acquisition: Partner directly with the founders to define hiring priorities, develop sourcing strategies, and ensure we’re building a high-performing team aligned with our culture and goals.

Act as a Talent Brand Ambassador: Develop and refine Onyx’s employer brand, ensuring that candidates clearly understand our mission, culture, and values.

Implement Scalable Recruiting Processes: Design, optimize, and manage recruiting workflows, including ATS management, candidate communication, and data-driven reporting.

Drive Creative Sourcing and Outreach: Identify and engage top talent through traditional and non-traditional channels, leveraging your network and experimenting with innovative sourcing methods.

Guide and Coach Hiring Managers: Provide strategic guidance to founders and team leads on best practices in interviewing, candidate experience, and hiring decisions.

Deliver a World-Class Candidate Experience: Ensure that every candidate who interacts with Onyx leaves with a positive impression, regardless of the outcome.

- Have 3+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience, with a focus on technical and GTM roles.
- Thrive in an early-stage, high-growth startup environment, where adaptability and strategic thinking are key.
- Are a natural storyteller, capable of clearly and persuasively communicating Onyx’s mission, vision, and opportunity.
- Have experience designing and implementing scalable recruiting processes and systems.
- Are data-driven, leveraging metrics to inform recruiting strategies and optimize performance.
- Are a proactive problem-solver who can anticipate challenges and develop creative solutions.
⭐ Bonus Points:
- Experience as the first or early recruiting hire at a startup, building the function from the ground up.
- Experience recruiting for technical roles, including full-stack engineers, ML engineers, and forward-deployed engineers.
- Strong network within the AI/tech industry.
Familiarity with ATS systems like Ashby, Greenhouse, or Lever.
