Why this is a massive opportunity

🌍 The market is enormous: This is a ‘need to have’ solution for every business around the world once they hit a certain stage. It’s becoming increasingly hard to ignore (see below) and if businesses don’t collect and remit indirect tax, they end up paying for it out of pocket later.

🌬️ Strong macro tailwinds: Businesses are going global earlier and earlier and they’re not equipped to deal with cross border compliance. Additionally, tax authorities are clamping down on cross border tax compliance which means demand for this solution will continue to grow (e.g. EU forcing payment processors to hand over tax evaders from April 1, 2024).

✨ AI can change the game - a lot of processes related to tax compliance / research have been extremely manual and cumbersome to date. That’s why incumbents like Avalara, Vertex (and newer players like Anrok) haven’t been able to move outside the US. We think LLMs can change that.

🔮 Product vision: We believe that tax-focused LLMs will be the foundation of a broader cross border compliance platform that help businesses go global from day 1. We want to be the Deel for international billing.

What you will do

Within days:

• Work with our Engineering team (all ex-Deel) to understand the three key pillars of our platform - 1.) customer integrations, 2.) our web app and 3.) tax authority integrations
• Own a part of the platform and start shipping from Week 1
• Work directly with customers to solve their pain points. We need someone who has high empathy and is excited to work with companies like Weaviate, Runway, ElevenLabs as well as our tax team

Within months:

• Expand registration, filing and tax engine coverage across the US and countries around the world
• Build out our integrations capabilities with billing, accounting and HRIS providers
• Upgrade and enhance our internal infrastructure to make our platform scalable to thousands of businesses around the world

What we are looking for

A full stack engineer with:

• Strong experience in Django/Python + Nextjs/React as well as an interest in LLMs (prior AI experience not necessary)
• Early stage experience - we want people with a hardcore mentality and a a desire to own something from the early stages + grind
• A desire to work in person in our office in SF
• Ideally some background in the fintech or compliance realm

Web app - a Django/Python backend and a Nextjs/React front end powers a modern web based platform that offers functionality to 1. monitor indirect tax exposure, 2. register with tax authorities, 3. calculate / collect the correct sales tax within customer billing systems and 4. file / remit the correct indirect tax returns to relevant tax authorities.

Tax-focused LLMs - we leverage new scraping tech and LLMs to collect, monitor and process tax rate and tax legislation data across the world. This feeds into our web app / customers systems via API.
