About PlatoHQ: PlatoHQ is on a mission to build the largest community for Engineering Leaders. We are a team that ships fast and frequently, leveraging a lot of AI to build a platform that enhances connections, enables one-on-one mentorship, peer group mentorship, course creation, and content generation. We are a lean team in pursuit of refining our product-market fit.
About the Role:
We're looking for a Product Designer who can not only design but also code. This is a hands-on role with a lot of autonomy, reporting directly to the CEO. The person in this role will be making crucial front-end and design decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in product ideation and conceptual development.
- Create visual designs for web and mobile applications.
- Implement these designs into our Next.JS / TRPC stack using Typescript and Chakra UI.
- Work collaboratively with our engineering team to ensure effective execution of designs.
- Utilize and contribute to our design system.
- Make strategic and data-driven decisions relating to design and user experience.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of product development process.
- Proficient in Typescript and experience with Next.JS / TRPC.
- Knowledge of Chakra UI or similar libraries.
- Proven ability to create designs (UI/UX) that can be implemented into code.
- Excellent collaboration skills.
- Founder mindset - ability to be hands-on, proactive, and work autonomously.
- Strong visual design sense and ability to conceptualize and communicate complex design concepts.

Interview Process for Product Designer Role:
- Resume and Portfolio Review: Candidates submit their resume and portfolio showcasing their design and coding skills.
- Initial Phone Screening: A 30-minute call with our CEO to discuss your interest in the role and your background.
- Technical Screening: A 1-hour remote coding and design test to assess your proficiency with Typescript, Next.JS / TRPC, and Chakra UI.
- Design Exercise: A design challenge to showcase your UI/UX skills, strategic thinking, and problem-solving approach.
- Team Interview: Virtual meetings with team members to assess cultural fit, communication style, and collaborative working methods.
- Final Interview with CEO/CTO: A direct conversation with the CEO/CTO to discuss your vision, goals, and how you would contribute to our mission.
- Offer Discussion: If successful, we will extend a formal job offer, discussing salary, start dates, and other details.
