About the role

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Swayable is a fast-growing, cloud analytics product that measures public opinion and the impact of messages and advertising content on it. Its 30-person team is backed by top technology and social impact investors, including Y Combinator. Founded in 2018 by two physics PhDs, it is led by the former Executive Director for Digital Strategy at the New York Times. Clients include major consumer-facing brands (Airbnb, Square, Paramount Pictures, Amazon), researchers (MIT, Yale, Stanford) and mission-aligned advocacy campaigns (including multiple Democratic Presidential candidates).

JOB OVERVIEW

Swayable is hiring a Head of Marketing (VP level) to lead and accelerate our brand-building and demand-generation efforts. Ideal candidates have experience leading teams and collaborating constructively at similarly positioned companies (size and/or industry).

This position will be part of the leadership team and interact internally with sales, client, and product teams — as well as co-lead relationships with external contractors and partners

LOCATION

New York, NY (preferred), but we are remote-friendly with in-person hubs in New York and San Francisco.  As NY team / office is built out, expectation is to be in the office 1-3x/week to collaborate when key team members available (CEO, Sales leadership, Marketing team, Design, etc)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

BE STRATEGIC (Think big)

• Demonstrate domain expertise and thought-leadership

• Evangelize and articulate the unique value proposition of the Swayable Platform to direct brand clients, creative agencies, and media buying/planning agencies

• Assess market/client landscape changes, and adapt our marketing to match

• Understand our product, customers and markets — and be ready to improve / evolve our company's positioning

• Refine audience personas, by understanding customer insights, industry pain-points and buying triggers

• Develop growth strategies together with the sales team

• Work as a positive and influential force for the company - internally and externally

• Grow your team over time and develop talent

• Take risks and make the difficult decisions

EXECUTE WITH EXCELLENCE (Bias for Action)

• Must have function-building, team leadership experience as well as strong desire and recent experience getting stuff done

• Leadership: Work with C-Suite, Sales, Customer Success, Product, Ops to build and drive effective Go-to-Market strategies. Recruit 1-2 key support roles

• Operations: Improve marketing mix via a content-driven plan to increase brand awareness and inbound interest; get Swayable participating in key industry events; host events, online and IRL; update and generate intelligent, beautiful collateral material including decks, posts and videos

• Communications: Simplify company value proposition + outputs to be more clear and compelling for partners / prospects

• Sales Enablement: Partner with Sales to continuously deliver compelling marketing materials + qualified leads

• Externally focused / enabled: Capitalize on partnerships and alliances to build our brand among market influencers

ABOUT YOU

• 6-8+ years experience leading a marketing team and working in a relevant technology-based environment (marketing technology company, startup, digital marketing team / agency, etc); client experience is welcome but B2B experience preferred.

• BA/BS or College Degree Preferred (MBA Ideal)

Mastery and/or strong experience with B2B marketing strategy, brand-building, design-thinking, UX design marketing automation, marketing tools (PR, events, case-studies, digital marketing, analytics), and implementation (eye for detail, executes with excellence)

• Self-starter who can identify problems and create solutions with minimal guidance or hand-holdingLead the team and do the work; while you will have access to various resources (marketing team, agency, contractors, cross-functional), must also be willing to “roll sleeves up” to get the job done wherever necessary; be able to prioritize tasks, manage projects, set expectations, and deliver outputs in a timely manner.

• Mastery / familiarity of: Collaboration Tools (Google Docs, Notion / Confluence, Slack, Airtable, etc), CRM (Hubspot, Salesforce), Design / Creative Resources (Adobe Suite, Keynote, Canva, Figma, etc), and Digital Media (Google / LinkedIn / Facebook, ABM); while not all tools are required - a comfort / willingness to learn quickly is expected

• Communicate effectively (internally and externally): Ability to convey complex concepts in easy-to-understand terms

• Have a point of view. - with “Strong beliefs, weakly held” (willing to learn, debate, and adapt)

Technology

Our web apps are Vue.js and Node.js. We use MongoDB for our database. Calculations happen in a Python/Celery app and use numpy, scipy, and pandas. We host on Heroku.
