About BillionToOne

Do you want to join one of the fastest-growing molecular diagnostics companies to help transform prenatal and oncology diagnostics that can affect millions of patient lives?

BillionToOne, one of the top Y Combinator companies with $200M+ in funding from prominent VC firms, has developed a DNA molecular counter that increases the cell-free DNA diagnostics resolution by over 1,000 fold. We are the only technology platform that can detect single-gene disorders in an unborn baby from maternal blood and that can accurately quantify tumor DNA changes in cancer patients.

UNITY Screen, our prenatal test, continues to grow exponentially and is on its path to becoming the next standard-of-care, with an increasing number of publications showing its accuracy and advantages over other screening methods. We have also recently used our molecular counting technology to develop liquid biopsy products, which will transform oncology care.

Do you want to join one of the fastest-growing molecular diagnostics companies to transform prenatal and oncology diagnostics that can affect millions of patient lives?

BillionToOne is looking for a Senior Scientist to enhance our development team responsible for driving innovative next-gen sequencing, robotic automation, and bioinformatics solutions to our high-growth clinical laboratory. This is an extremely impactful scientist role who will own nucleic acid biochemistry improvements as we scale our clinical laboratory another 10x in the next 2-3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Lead NGS library prep improvements as a part of laboratory scaling efforts, in collaboration with robotics automation and bioinformatics
  • Provide expert technical judgement for CLIA laboratory processes including, but not limited to, process validations and the transfer of new methodologies to clinical operations.
  • Design experiments to validate new diagnostic/screening assays, procedure changes, and instruments.
  • Collaborate with the clinical and other R&D teams to transfer new products and procedures into the CLIA laboratory

Who You Are

  • PhD in biological sciences, chemistry, bioengineering, biophysics, or related discipline with extensive molecular biology lab experience
  • Very strong intuition and first-principles approach to molecular biology assays, analytical chemistry tools, and NGS library prep (PCR, DNA purification, electrophoresis, etc.)
  • Strong ability to analyze high-throughput experimental data (e.g. in python or R) to iterate and refine experiment design.
  • Stellar written technical communication, project management, and organizational skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Start-up experience
  • Ability to analyze NGS data using common bioinformatics tools (e.g. bwa mem, GATK, etc.)
  • Laboratory automation experience
  • Experience working under regulatory environments such as CLIA, CAP, or FDA
