About Duffel

Whether it’s to visit the people closest to us, starting an exciting adventure, or a career-defining business trip, travel is an essential part of our lives. Yet we've all experienced the aches and pains of getting to our destination. Today, more than 4 billion airline passengers rely on technology that hasn't kept up with the expectations of the modern connected traveller.

That’s why we’ve started to rebuild the infrastructure that underpins the travel industry. We’re on a mission to unravel travel — simplifying systems and building the tools that will make the future of travel effortless.

We were part of Y Combinator S18's cohort and we are backed Benchmark, Blossom, Index Ventures and Kima Ventures. A fantastic set of investors that has helped build some of the world's largest companies.

Our team in London is growing and we’re looking for talented people to join us on our journey.

Overview

We're looking for someone to create and champion Duffel’s growth and lifecycle marketing efforts, helping our users understand and get the full value out of Duffel. This is a highly strategic role focused on driving results that contribute meaningfully to our bottom line.

In this role, you'll build a deep understanding of the customer, from account creation and activation to expansion and upgrades and optimise key parts of that journey. You'll own messaging across platforms, including email and in-product, and focus on creating tailored journeys for all of Duffel's segments.

A successful candidate will be able to show success driving business results, such as increased activation or monetisation of a customer base. They will ideally have established an enterprise SaaS marketing function in the past. This is a cross-functional role that requires a close partnership with our product development, design, and sales teams.

What you'll be doing

  • Deeply engage with the customer to understand key points in the customer journey and uncover insights that drive activation and engagement.
  • Develop a compelling narrative and value proposition for our customer segments as well as new and existing features.
  • Conduct market, competitor, and segmentation research to inform our product, marketing, and sales strategies.
  • Partner closely with product, engineering and design to ensure customer needs and insights are central to roadmap development. Drive the marketing strategy around product positioning for existing products and new launches.
  • Create campaigns that engage, nurture, and grow our user base from signup all the way through monetisation.
  • Leverage data to monitor how people use Duffel, inflexion points in their experience, and how we can drive activation and engagement.
  • Constantly measure and report campaign performance, rigorously A/B test, and optimise our communications across channels.
  • Partner closely with other teams, including growth, product, and sales, to serve the most effective content possible, share and respond to feedback, and strengthen our customer-facing efforts across the board.

What we're looking for in you

  • You're experienced with developer business models and lifecycle marketing, including impacting activation, upgrade, and retention metrics.
  • Experience of designing, hiring and developing high performance marketing teams.
  • Customer-centric with experience in generating qualitative and quantitative insights and using those insights to inform your marketing strategies.
  • Analytical and data-driven. You are a problem solver who knows how to use data to identify problems, find opportunities, and drive continuous improvement in our marketing and growth efforts.
  • You have a track record of successful campaigns backed up by measurable ROI
  • You can share proven A/B testing strategies that resulted in optimised results.
  • You're fascinated by how people behave in product experiences and have a scientific mindset about how to make even small changes in decision-making.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with product, design and commercial teams.
  • Highly curious with a bias to action. As a small company, everyone's scope is broad, and we're always doing something new.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills.

What you can expect from us

We’re dedicated to your personal growth. Our environment is comfortable physically, but also in that our ears are always open to any ideas, concerns and questions. We believe that everyone should have pride in their work, taking full ownership of it and its impact. That’s why everyone who joins Duffel owns a share of the company.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We believe that the key to our success is employing a diverse team, that’s why recruitment decisions are only based on your experience and skills. We value your ability to problem solve and build amazing things so we welcome applications for everyone – regardless of age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief.

Technology

We're a small team building tools to simplify travel distribution, search and booking. What does this actually mean? It's one common and seamless API. This brings huge technical challenges as we need to design and build a beautiful API before integrating to hundreds of airlines. Along with that we need to navigate through the differing needs and systems of each airline whilst building a fantastic developer experience to go with it.

The tools used on the team include Elixir, Phoenix, Next.js, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud Platform.
