Boost Biomes is using the powerful social networks among microbes to provide novel, sustainable solutions to feed and heal people everywhere. Our technology differentiator is the development of a causal understanding of microbial interactions powerful enough to allow the rational construction of designer functional consortia.
Our first products seek to reduce the enormous waste in agricultural products due to crop loss to fungal pests in the field and post-harvest. There is significant need for new biological, organic, safe biopesticides for crops; current chemical products have many challenges, such as regulatory burden for growers and safety concerns of consumers.
Harnessing the power of microbiomes will be imperative to a sustainable future. Boost’s core technology is a proprietary discovery platform that uses high throughput sequencing, selective enrichment and advanced informatics to identify microbial products with important commercial roles. Boost is uniquely positioned at the leading edge of a quickly expanding field looking to tap into the value offered by understanding and engineering microbiomes.

Boost is looking for an outstanding, entry level candidate able to help build the data infrastructure necessary for storing, tracking, and analyzing large biological and bioinformatic datasets.
You will be tasked with helping to design and implement the foundational architecture of Boost’s in-house LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) system, including scripting that will enable users to both store and pull data. You will assist in developing tools to increase accessibility and ease of use for current and future databases. You will coordinate sample data entries and management with laboratory scientists utilizing our automated liquid handling system for high throughput experimentation. You will be counted on for proactive troubleshooting and to identify improvement opportunities for existing data management systems. Collectively, your efforts will enable Boost to fully realize the potential of its Interactome Discovery Platform, by building the core data structure underlying the company’s transformative technology.
Who You Are
You have expertise in and are passionate about big data and computer coding, preferably with an interest in biological and/or DNA sequencing applications. Your educational background includes experience with a variety of scripting languages, including those used to build and search databases. You will appreciate smartly designed data infrastructure that scales effectively in size and breadth. You are an independently motivated, enthusiastic self-starter, who is looking to build on your academic training early in your professional career. You are someone who proactively seeks and internalizes feedback with the goal of improving performance, and are motivated by working collaboratively on a team. You are someone who has experience communicating technical information, including oral and written reports. You have a positive, can-do attitude, who thrives when presented with technical challenges that require innovative solutions. You are excited by the opportunity to work in a fast-paced start-up environment.
● Experience with database systems and sample/metadata tracking, preferably LIMS systems ● Proficiency or interest in multiple programing languages used in database construction and management (SQL, Python, SSL, or JScript) ● Proficiency with MS Office and Google Suite platform applications ● ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) experience preferred ● Familiarity with Linux, bioinformatic pipelines, software API development, automation (liquid handlers), and electronic lab notebooks (e.g. Benchling) preferred but not required ● Strong verbal and written communication skills able to translate the needs of stakeholders into product function ● Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a complex and agile environment, and drive results within set timeframes ● Commitment to learning new tools, techniques, and skills ● A BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Biology, or related field with <2 years of professional experience
