About Culture Biosciences

Culture Biosciences grows organisms for biotech companies. We've built the first cloud bioreactor facility. Here’s how it works:

  1. Our customers are experts in DNA design -- they send us their genetically engineered organisms for testing.
  2. We grow their cells in our bioreactors to examine the efficacy of different protocols and their effect on yield and productivity.
  3. Our customers monitor the state of things live via our website. At the end we send them some samples for storage or more custom analysis.

Our customers genetically modify organisms to produce new therapeutics, materials, fuels and foods. We help them quickly run experiments and develop manufacturing processes so they can get their products to market faster. We've built proprietary software and automation systems to make operating our bioreactors more efficient than existing systems. We also provide customers with new software tools that help them analyze and contextualize their data. We are currently serving a number of biotech customers and scaling out our infrastructure.

We are a Bay Area company backed by leading venture funds including YCombinator and Verily Life Sciences. We are made up of mechanical, software, biomedical and chemical engineers who worked previously at Google X, Facebook, MIT, CalTech, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Lawrence Berkeley National Labs. About the role

Culture Biosciences grows organisms for biotech companies. We've built the first cloud bioreactor facility. Here’s how it works:

  1. Our customers, biotechnology companies, design organisms (bacteria, yeast, mammalian cells) to produce products (materials, therapeutics, food).

  2. We grow their cells in our bioreactors to optimize the yield of their products. Ultimately, we help our customers get their products to market faster.

  3. Our customers receive their experimental results live on our website.

Our cloud bioreactor facility is made possible by custom software and automation technology that our team develops. The automated infrastructure is also more efficient to operate than traditional equipment. Our software also provides quick and simple data analysis, enabling customers to analyze reams of data quickly. 

The Role

We are looking for experienced sales specialists who are excited to help us grow the adoption of our digital biomanufacturing platform. Your job will be to educate biotechnology companies about Culture’s cloud bioreactor platform and software solutions and show them how we can accelerate their R&D while saving them time and money. You will be responsible for sourcing and closing deals with prospective customers across biotech industries (e.g  biopharmaceuticals, sustainable agriculture technology, alternative proteins, cellular agriculture, renewable materials, and industrial biotechnology), and you have experience selling in at least one of those sectors. 

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about disrupting an industry with entrenched, legacy approaches to R&D. We are looking for you to experiment with and innovate on our sales playbook, rewriting the script as you learn what works. Given that you’ll be speaking with customers every day, we also expect you to identify new business opportunities, market segments, and product offerings. You will collaborate with our executive leadership, technical, and scientific teams to help translate customer insights you discover in the field into product and market positioning strategies. 

What You'll Do:

  • Hunt for, build trusting relationships with, and secure new customers through managing complex, multi-stakeholder procurement processes

  • Rapidly prototype and evaluate various selling strategies and techniques to build a scalable, repeatable sales playbook

  • Manage existing accounts and increase their adoption and usage of our services

  • Develop processes to better manage sales pipeline and accurately forecast sales activity through use of sales automation tools  (i.e. CRM)

  • Deeply understand prospects’ pain points, and work with product and marketing teams to help with prioritization and packaging of new features to solve them

  • Work directly with the CEO to analyze competitive products and services and to prioritize market segments

About You: 

  • You have at least 3 years of experience selling life science technology or contract lab services to our client base: R&D groups in industrial biotechnology, agriculture biotechnology, and biopharmaceuticals. 

  • You have a proven ability to develop, implement, and execute sales strategies to exceed sales quotas and revenue targets

  • You are an adept communicator. You are able to communicate with diverse stakeholders within life science organizations, ranging from bench scientists to C-Suite executives. 

  • You have a wide range of interests and you’re very curious about people.

  • You consider empathy, self-awareness, and introspection as some of your core strengths. 

  • You’re authentic and you don’t feel the need to oversell yourself.

  • Ideally, you have some background in microbial or mammalian process development or you feel that you could ramp up quickly. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant scientific field a plus. Master’s or PhD preferred.

About the Role:

  • Full-time position.

  • Competitive compensation in the form of salary, equity, and commission.

  • Expect to travel 50% of your time.

  • We prefer you to be based in the SF Bay Area, but it is not required. Our second preference would be being based in another US biotech hub, such as the Boston Area.

  • PTO: 3 weeks and 10 days of company holidays. 

  • Parental leave policy: 12 weeks. Full salary paid.
