Rebellyous Foods is a food manufacturing technology and production company defined solely to catapult meat alternative production toward price parity with animal-based meat. Rebellyous implements novel food manufacturing equipment and processes in large-scale production to produce low-cost plant-based meat at high volumes. Seattle Food Tech (SFT) is an early-stage, plant-based foods start-up. As a food production and manufacturing technology company, we are looking to substantially increase the volume and lower the price of specific plant-based meat products to effectively serve the institutional market to replace animal-based meat on a large scale.
SFT is seeking a Process & Equipment R&D Engineer to serve as the technical lead for SFT’s equipment and production line design and development in collaboration with the larger engineering team and to perform the following:
Productivity: ● Determine and calculate production lines for our two types of plant-based meat products. ● Work with suppliers and engineering team to determine the cost of equipment for certain volume production lines. ● Support design and development of new processing line equipment. ● Coordinate contract manufacturing efforts for SFT. ● Coordinate R&D efforts in collaboration with SFT’s engineering team. ● Support food engineering efforts overall including assistance with fundraising, media inquiries, and partnerships.
Innovation: ● Maintain product and R&D engineering needs assessments. ● Design experiments (DOE) to determine optimal production processes, equipment and recipes. ● Support multiple experimental food production projects. ● Propose new food production projects in response to bottlenecks in production line engineering.
Waste Reduction: ● Actively evaluate projects and work functions for wasted time, effort, resources, products, and the like. ● Propose waste reduction opportunities for review. ● Implement waste reduction efforts; track effectiveness.
Skills and Experience Requirements: Candidates for this position should have some or all of the following credentials:
● Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, equipment engineering, manufacturing engineering, food science, or food engineering or similar degree is required. Graduate degrees preferred, but not required. ● Minimum of four years working in the food industry, preferably in direct food manufacturing or equipment engineering. ● Experience managing short and long-term engineering projects and coordinating with internal employees and external suppliers, vendors, and consultants. ● Direct experience designing equipment and automation systems, preferably in the food industry. ● Willing to travel around 50% of the time to support R&D projects, if necessary. ● Willing to apply creative solutions to solve workflow bottlenecks; seeking a focused problem solver. ● Enjoys working with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
